Gift Card Terms and Conditions
Gift Card Issuance
The gift card is issued by Smáralind ehf., reg. no. 550496-2329, VAT no. 96833.
Where the Gift Card Is Valid
The Smáralind gift card is valid in all shops, restaurants, and service providers in Smáralind, with the exception of the state liquor store (Vínbúðin). The balance cannot be redeemed for cash.
Gift Card in Mobile Wallets
The Smáralind gift card can be added to Apple and android mobile wallets and used for payment via phone. The card number cannot be viewed in the wallet, so it is important to keep the plastic card if you need to access the card number or check the balance.
Where to Buy a Gift Card
Gift cards can be purchased at the Smáralind service desk or at smaralind.is Gift cards can be paid for in cash up to ISK 50,000 at the service desk. For gift card exceeding ISK 50,000, payment must e made by card or bank transfer. Customers may choose to pick up the gift card during Smáralind's opening hours or have it delivered to their home for a fee.
Cards Collected at the Service Desk
Cards collected at the service desk are issued the same day during Smáralind's opening hours. An exception applies in the case of bulk purchases, where delivery time may be longer.
Cards Sent to the Buyer
Gift cards sent my mail are delivered via traceable post with Íslandspóstur and reach the recipient within 1-3 business days. They are delivered to whoever is present at the address at the time of delivery. Shipping costs are in accordance with Íslandspóstur's current rates.
Price of Gift Card
The amount on the gift card is determined by the buyer. No additional fees are charged on the purchased amount, unless the card is mailed to the buyer, in which case shipping costs apply.
Returns and Refunds
Gift cards cannot be returned, and the balance cannot be exchanged for cash.
Liability Terms
Smáralind assumes no responsibility for the gift card. The card is a bearer instrument, and the holder alone is responsible for it. Please safeguard the card, as a lost card means lost funds. Smáralind is not liable for any damage or inconvenience caused if a retailer refuses to accept the card as payment.
Validity Period
The stored balance is valid for thee years from the date of purchase. The physical card card itself is valid for 10 years.
Checking the Balance
The balance on the gift card can easily be checked on Smáralind's website or by scanning the QR code on the card. It is also possible to provide the card number at the service desk or call +354 528 8000.
Misuse of the Gift Card
The gift card holder is responsible for ensuring that its use complies with Act No. 140/2018 on measures against money laundering and terrorist financing, as subsequently amended, and rules issued on the same basis. The issuer reserves the right to suspend use of the card and revoke it without notice if there is reasonable suspicion of misuse. All such conduct will be immediately reported to the police.
Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These terms shall be interpreted in accordance with Icelandic law. Any disputes concerning the interpretation or implementation of these terms may be brought before the District Court of Reykjanes.
Confidentiality
Smáralind only requests information necessary for payment and delivery of the product. No information is shared with third parties, except where necessary to deliver the purchased gift card. All processing of personal data by Smáralind is in accordance with Act No. 90/2018 on data protection and processing of personal data. Smáralind has adopted a privacy policy, which can be found here.
